What is Mastika?
Mastika, also known as “Chios Tears”, is the natural resin of the evergreen glutinous pistachio tree (Pistacia lentiscus), which grows in the Mediterranean region. The original Mastika comes from trees that grow exclusively on the Greek island of Chios. It is obtained in the process of cutting their bark, as a result of which the resin freely comes to the surface, from where it is collected, and then dried using maltodextrin (a polysaccharide made from starch), which most companies do not include in their composition.
Mastika is a source of many useful ingredients, giving it a refreshing, resinous scent – mastic acids and valuable essential oils dominate among them.
History of the use of Mastika
The history of using mastic is very long and dates back to ancient times, where it was valued not only for its characteristic taste, but also for its therapeutic properties. It is believed to be the first natural chewing gum used by the inhabitants of ancient Greece for hygienic purposes – for brushing teeth and refreshing breath. At that time, mastika was also used as a cosmetic agent for cleansing the face and body, even as an active ingredient of pharmaceutical preparations of that time.
What is the origin of the product?
Mastika is a regional product, characteristic of the Mediterranean, and as such is subject to EU legal protection. When choosing a product with Mastika, it is worth paying attention to the origin and authenticity of the resin used.
The powdered resin contained in Aliness Mastika 500 mg is the original mastika, obtained from pistachio trees (Pistacia lentiscus) growing exclusively on the Greek island of Chios – that is, in the natural area of the plant, from which mastic was originally obtained from ancient times. The natural origin of the raw material and the lack of excessive technological processing guarantee the full spectrum of active substances.
Aliness Mastika does not contain any animal ingredients, making it a product suitable for vegans. The product does not contain any preservatives or dyes.
One capsule contains 500 mg of the original Mastika.
